To close or not to close a connection?

I notice here we are opening and closing connections in the models for our database documents. The thing is we were not recommended to close connections in the last video we used mongo. Thats fine, I am just wondering if anybody has a deeper understanding as to what is the best practice?

I read online that starting connections can take a couple hundred milliseconds so its best to keep the connections open, but Im not sure if that will end up bottlenecking the server or cause other problems?
