14,918 PointsTo start with JavaScript, do I need to know HTML or CSS?
Is HTML and CSS the pre-requisite to take this JavaScript basic course by Dave McFarland?

15,719 PointsIt would be most certainly helpful! He is going to use some HTML elements you might not be familiar with. Javascript is built to work with HTML and CSS, so you should have an understanding of HTML and CSS before getting familiar with Javascript.
