General Discussion

Today, I earned 1,000 Treehouse points. :)

Not a question, just a bit of bragging. I completed the "Start a Business" adventure today, finished the Responsive Web Design project, finished the Build a Simple PHP Application project and earned a couple of other badges. ;)

awesome!

Congratulations - I thought I had been doing well for the last few days (although the weekend is normally still a work day!). Great inspiration! I love the feeling of getting a new badge - reminds me of being back in the boy scouts!

Badges are a great way to keep users engaged. I need to find away to add them to some of my apps lol.

Well, why do you think platforms like Xbox Live, Steam and the PSN have achievements? They're a great way to show off... and who doesn't like to show off? ;)

I agree! and who doesn't like badges? Badges are awesome!

Yeah, it harkens back to my Girl Guide days. ;-P

Nice one! I'm nearly there also! Feels great doesn't it?

:)

Dude, I meant 1,000 just today. In total (as you can see by my user name), I have earned 7,378 points in total, so far.

Ha! I really should read more.

In that case, that's MIGHTY impressive.

I'll just crawl back to ‘50ish points a day’ corner :)

C'est la vie. I really should have been doing my coursework for school, but I just got caught up in it, along with trying to learn a couple of other things for a personal portfolio site I am coding. Right now, that site is starting to look pretty good with the HTML, CSS and JavaScript but I need to code quite a bit more interactivity into the PHP.

I saw your profile, really wish Treehouse was around when I was an Art School student. Then again, some older people may wish that iPads were around a few years ago, or even older people wish Quark never existed!

Have fun! :)

Hi Jessica,

You have just put me to shame - I do about a video a day (just mad busy at the moment). Am going to hit up a Treehouse Marathon at the weekend - thanks for the inspiration and love the loving the work.

Wow! That's AWE-SOME Jessica! As Graham said, that's definitely an inspiration. Keep up the great work!

I shall. It's one of my goals to earn every single badge on Treehouse. ;)

Great job! Now start to look at Bootstrap, jQuery and CodeIgniter. THE REAL SHOW BEGINS NOW!

Already doing it. My site uses Bootstrap and I'm getting into a little jQuery. ;)

Also take a look at SASS/LESS while you're at it :)

Already coding SASS. ;)

Just signed up, look forward to the same success. Congrats, sounds like the hard work is paying off!

I'm hoping so, right now, my next accomplishment is to finish the CSS & JavaScript foundations. It's dry, tedious work but when I get done, I'll be so much better off. :)

Jessica, I think that's amazing! Do you mind explaining the process of how you learn the material? I just started Treehouse and I would love to get a few pointers from the experienced folks :)

Howdy Jace. Well, here's the thing, I can't give you a very specific answer. The reason is, is that I don't know your personal learning style, path or where you want to go. From looking at your points here, I see that you've taken only HTML & CSS classes and it seems like you're eating through the Foundations classes. This is great, and it helps me to narrow down what your interests are to Web. If you are interested in Design, maybe you might want to look into some of the design courses - and there was recently a course about HTML E-mail so you might want to look at that too. If you're interested in the development route, shift your focus to the Dev Tools, PHP and Ruby courses. Also, you can never go wrong with adding business badges to your profile, business information is handy no matter which path you take - whether you want to work freelance or get signed on as a professional designer/developer with another company. If you're going with the company route, I would suggest starting with Careers Foundations. If you want to freelance, How to Freelance is a smart move.

Also, don't be afraid to test out of what you think you know. If you get a perfect score, wonderful! Continue on! If you don't, go back to the video because there might be something you missed. I think I tested out of everything in HTML Foundations on the first day because I knew HTML.

One thing that might benefit you is that the videos are available to download as an iTunes feed. Sync it into your iPod and you can listen to some of the courses (i.e. the business courses) on your way to work, running. etc. Then, you can test your knowledge when you get back home.

But above all else, go at the speed that feels comfortable for you and where you are sure that you are getting the content. It doesn't help you in the end to unnecessarily speed through this. You have time. :)

This is just great :) Congratulations! I felt, when I reached 10.000 points, it's was hard to continue with the same speed. Points and badges are of course not the core of Team Treehouse, just gamification elements, but it can make you a little bit addicted.

Therefore I now started with setting a new goal: Learning enough to make an iOS App together with a friend in just one week.

All the best on your journey - Treehouse is really a great tool and an even better community to learn.
