Tools or tutorials to develop the backend of an iOS Messaging App

I'm trying to build a simple messaging app. What are the options I can use for the backend? In the Build Self-Destructing Messaging app, it uses Parse.com to store images and videos sent by users. Would this work for messages or should I try something else?

yes parse would work. I would try that since you already know how to use it.
