13,442 PointsTransitioning from Web Designer to UX Designer
Hi,
I am currently 7 months into the industry as a Web Designer and I plan to transition my career into a UX Designer in a couple years after getting more experience.
Is there any tips on making that transition from Web Designer to UX designer more smoother?
Any suggested book I should read? Any website courses you recommend I take? What skills should I definitely master before making the transition?
Thanks!

I would recommend you read the book 'Lean UX' (http://www.amazon.com/Lean-UX-Applying-Principles-Experience/dp/1449311652), it's a great book that will teach you a lot about UX as well as the 'lean' way of working. Another great one is 'Don't make me think' (http://www.amazon.com/Dont-Make-Think-Revisited-Usability/dp/0321965515/ref=pd_bxgy_14_img_y). The biggest difference in my opinion between Web Design and UX Design is all the preparation and work you will do before even starting designing. You need to know not only what design will work the best for the user, but also how a user thinks, what differentiates the different users, user behavior, cognitive science, etc. Also check out the blog http://uxmag.com/articles/the-psychologists-view-of-ux-design, it's a great resource. I'm sure you will enjoy the transition a lot, good luck!
