Translucent Status Bar Showing White

So I put in a nav bar, and it’s translucent, showing a light gray color. When I run the app, the status bar is white though, and looks awful for the colors not matching. Why is that? i thought the status bar was supposed to take on the same color as the nav bar? i googled it and the best i could come up with is that either there isn’t anything behind the translucent status bar, or that i basically insists on being white… Any help would be great, thanks!

The reasoning is that it is a stand-alone navigation bar, not apart of a nag controller… but still don’t know how to fix

solved it for anyone who wants to know: just embed in a nav controller. doesn’t effect anything
