32,055 PointsTreehouse site not working on Ubuntu...has anyone else run across this?
I access the site from my Mac at work without any problems. I just inherited a frankenbox and I loaded it with Ubuntu 16.04. Everything is working great, except for teamtreehouse.com. I gan get to the login screen but once I enter my credentials and click log in everything freezes up.
I've tried on Chromium and Firefox. Strange thing is that I can go into Private browsing in Firefox and actually have the site work. . .for about fifteen minutes. After that everything will freeze up again.
Is Treehouse using any 3-D rendering that I'm missing that might be causing the problem? Or am I missing something really silly?

Python Web Development Techdegree Student 6,851 PointsWeird, I use Fedora and it seems to be working OK in both Firefox and Chrom(e|ium)... I know some other students use Ubuntu, but I dunno if it's 16.04 or earlier versions... I have an Ubuntu box at home I've been meaning to upgrade to 16.04, I'll see if i can replicate...

35,800 PointsIt may be all the obtrusive tracking. I found Treehouse without an adblocker to freeze easily and have issues. There is http request EVERY SECOND Try an ad blocker and see if that helps. Private browsing blocks alot of trackers on Mozilla so that makes sense why it went longer. You can download the open source extension uBlock Origin from Gorhill ( not the other one, theres two make sure its Gorhill )

Python Web Development Techdegree Student 6,851 PointsI use ghostery and privacy badger without issue; if you're seeing a network request per second, my guess is that it's pubnub, which is how the site sends notifications. that said, it should be working over websockets, so if you're seeing polling, there's probably something wrong with websocket functionality on your browser.

35,800 PointsFrom what I recall, Ghostery changed their policy a while back to sell your info and made their update opt in.
Yes PubNub makes the requests. However PubNub is a third party. What is the point of using PubNub for Treehouse? The site works well without it so I am curious whats the use cases.
brendanvg on Privacy Badger repo brings a good point up why to keep it blocked >>> https://github.com/EFForg/privacybadgerchrome/issues/621
