Ive recently been working on a number of different projects out in the big bad world and while im not an expert I feel like I have enough knowledge to work on more than just one page websites and small adjustments to content.
Ive signed up to a number of different sites like Freelancer but I always let nerves get the better of me when wanted to bid on exciting jobs because I might lack the knowledge or face problems I just wont be able to overcome even if it really is an exciting project or a chance to gain myself a boot load of experience.
Ive come to the point in my learning journey were I need to get out there and work, earn some money and do what I set out to three years, work from home, code and make a shed load of money. I cant though because I lack the stones to actually go into a project were im the man, the guy that everyone is waiting on to produce what they asked for, its a scary thing and I keep coming back to thinking I wish Treehouse offered more in terms of getting off the ground and working on large projects with lots of people doing all different types of jobs.
It would be so much easier if I could come onto Treehouse find a job waiting for me in my inbox and know if I ever got stuck or needed help the entire Treehouse team and community would be there for you, I know the community are in terms of asking questions in the forums but it would be nice to know that if I couldnt do the project the cleint wouldnt be put out because they knew they were handing these projects over to Treehouse students.
I know this has it limits but even starting off really small getting a bit of confidence behind you, completed work to add to a portfolio and a helping hand when you needed it would be awesome and put Treehouse on another planet to every other learning company out there.
Treehouse would take a cut of the money of course and only paying members could be selected for work, the Treehouse team could browse the work logs and hand out the work to students they think can handle the work based off their points, help them if needed and if you had bigger projects you could have students with all different skill sets come together work in a team and feel like they are in the same boat as everyone else on the project, helping to gain vital experience.
Treehouse does a great job teaching you everything you need to know but it could do so much more if it had this type of thing in place, anyway if you read this far sorry! and thanks for taking the time to read it, look forward to seeing what other people think about it.

6,067 PointsThis is a cool idea. Reminds me of how Duolingo (the language learning website) makes money by having its users translate websites into different languages. The users aren't paid (and I don't think I'd care about getting paid by Treehouse since I'm still so inexperienced) but it's a great way to get experience.

17,146 PointsLove the idea Daniel, giving Treehouse a whole new role, students profiles also become a portfolio that companies considering hiring you can come check out. Even companies just looking to pick up some students to join their business. They will be able to see what sort of projects you have completed before, how long it took you, sample of how you coded it and feedback from the company once finished.
It has so much potential and only adds to the appeal for students to remain paying members on Treehouse for longer too.
I know adding this would take a lot of work but here is one for you! why not let the Treehouse community build this feature too? It could be turned into a course after, so newer students could see how Treehouse built their student work program.
It would be such an exciting project, working with payment systems like Stripe to handle all the payments side, getting to see Treehouse teachers add coding courses as they help build it with us, giving them more content more courses.
I want this to happen now! would be a really cool thing to be a part of.
