2,238 PointsTrying to figure out best approach or languages for a problem I am trying to help someone with.
So here is the problem that we are facing. A non-profit that I have been helping out with for a while has a very very old piece of software written by an intern ump-teen years ago that is on a PC that is about to die. I am not 100% sure but I am thinking it is written in Java.
The piece of software's purpose is to track where in the 'Bone Bed', bones have been found. So you have an X, Y, Z for coordinates. They do relate this back to kind of a stick drawing to show approximately with an image the bone or fragments were found at.
I am new to programming but willing to put in the time to try and figure this out if I can get some direction on where to head to even start!
What I am thinking so far is this is going to be tied to a small database to track the locations and import the old information into. Its going to need a simple form built to enter in new information. These parts seem straight forward enough.
The final piece though of making a drawing, or even populating a drawing with a series of coordinates is where I am truly stumped.
So if anyone has suggestions on how I could proceed, or ideas in general on a better solution I am all ears. Just don't want them to have to buy anything if at all possible, its a rather small museum and fossil bed so funds are pretty tight already.
Thanks in advance!
