UI/UX Position Offer - What am I getting myself into?

Hi Guys,

Recently i've been attending interviews at agencies. I have never worked in the industry before. One interview I went to has turned into an offer although I am not quite sure what type of job/requirements I would need.

I have been coding/developing for 2 years as a freelancer but have not been in the industry and do not really know the terms or ways of doing business for an agency.

Below is an email I received, I'm kind of nervous I guess about what to expect from the job as a UX/UI designer, especially when it comes to mobile. From the description in the email, if no frameworks are being used would I just use media queries to accomplish this?

Below is the email from the employer.

"Thanks, Dylan.

We’re weighing a couple possible candidates so you’ve obviously made the short list.

This would be fulltime work.

As for the UX/UI work, by and large most of it will be tweaking existing PSDs and re-cutting. Some work will involve creating new PSDs from given design cues (i.e. so the design falls in-line with the rest of the site).

There will also be a requirement to create the design/visuals for a mobile version of the site (but made into a native app).

No specific framework is being used, so this would all be straight PSD to HTML/CSS/image work.

Cheers,"

I guess the question is what type of qualifications I should have for a job like this. I am not too sure how to reply to this or what to expect when considering compensation. Currently I am running my own freelance business and making an alright amount but for the experience at an agency I think this might be a good step.

Suggestions?

Hi,

As I understand they want a man, who will use Photoshop cut the designs (sometimes create new ones) and build a template html file with css for, most probably for developers.

So the skills which you would need is, photoshop knowledge, how to cut psd files, how to create psd files and design files, maybe based on some hand drawings. Then you need HTML, CSS knowledge, for creating the basic webpage from the cut psd files.

If you are uncertain, ask more about the job, ask what will you need to do in HTML or CSS.

I hope I could help.

Regards, Greg.
