ul in Grid System

So I'm trying to make an unordered list using Dreamweaver 2014, and even if I declare display: inline; the li's won't budge. I figured I could make a few divs side by side instead, but I'm wondering if anyone knows what the problem might be. Thank you.

make sure you apply "display: inline" to the li elements
