Unable to notice the difference in padding 5% in #gallery li a p. <p> text also won't center

<ul id="gallery"> <li> <a href="img/numbers-01.jpg"> <img src="img/numbers-01.jpg" alt=""/> <p> Experimentation with color and texture </p> </a>

    </li>

gallery li a p {

margin: 0;
padding: 5%;
font-size: 0.75em;
color: #000;

}

Why doesn't my padding do anything? Also, there's no space between the start of my <p> text and the left border of my li background

in your css, you need to add the # to the gallery id selector.

#gallery li a p {
margin: 0;
padding: 5%;
font-size: 0.75em;
color: #000;
}
          ```
