Treehouse TeacherUpdated Android development bundles available!
Hey Android students!
The bundles used at the start of the Crystal Ball project have been causing a lot of issues lately. I think I've ironed them out and a new version of the bundle is available for both Mac and Windows that includes the latest version of Eclipse and the Android 4.4 (KitKat) SDK.
If you are currently having trouble with your bundle, check out the download links in the Teacher Notes section of Android Setup and the Crystal Ball Project. You can even download and run multiple versions if you'd like.
If you have a working bundle then there's no need to download this version; you can just update your tools using the SDK Manager inside Eclipse. :)
Lastly, there are a few slight difference when creating a project, which are outlined with screenshots here.

Treehouse TeacherJossmir Cruz, what a hassle! Sorry it's been such a pain. I think you are close to a working setup, though. I'd recommend installing Genymotion and using that as your emulator instead. It's generally better and seems to work well for people when the default emulator isn't working. It's very easy to install and setup, and I recorded a stage about it in the Android Tools project: teamtreehouse.com/library/android-tools/getting-started-with-genymotion

Treehouse TeacherThe Blog Reader project utilizes the bundle from the Android Developer site, so when you start it you should be getting the latest one available. The new Treehouse bundle is a repackaging of the Android Developer bundle with a script to create an AVD (the Android developer bundle wasn't available when we first released that course).
I also plan on refreshing the whole Crystal Ball course soon, though it won't change significantly. Updated graphics and maybe a little bit of updated code (we'll see once I start working on it).

My birthday is on the 22nd; so, to have something meaningful come out of that day for me despite my current circumstances, I guess I'll shoot for 300 badges. Why not? I made an unofficial bet with Elizabeth Fawkes that I expect a 300 parody from Treehouse when I do.
To be honest, if I don't fool around, I'm probably cleaning out the library this Wednesday. Being a lover of gamification systems and learning, I feel sort of obligated...

530 Points@benjakuben I think I may have run into just about every issue posted on these threads. I had trouble with the first attempt on the Crystal Ball Project and reinstalled the bundle, attempted a few more times. The Emulator was never able to run the Crystal Ball so I opted instead to download the SDK from the Android website. Unfortunately, doing so did not allow me to run the initial install. Without the installation, I couldn't run Eclipse. I went back and redownloaded the Treehouse bundle. Attempted to run Crystal Ball again, I got this far:
[2014-03-06 19:04:05 - CrystalBall] Failed to install CrystalBall.apk on device 'emulator-5554': device not found [2014-03-06 19:04:05 - CrystalBall] com.android.ddmlib.InstallException: device not found [2014-03-06 19:04:05 - CrystalBall] Launch canceled!
I also have attempted to unzip the bundle in several different locations. At this point I've extracted the files right from C:\Users\%username%\Downloads\android_dev_environment_windows_64bit (2) because I gave up on moving the files around. Regardless, the Emulator won't run Crystal Ball. I'm not sure what option I haven't explored or what more I should attempt. Is there any advice you can offer me on the matter?
