Updating a Wordpress/ Woocommerce Site

Hi, A friend who runs a small e-commerce website on Woocommerce has asked me if I could update the site to a more modern theme ( the theme they are currently using is very outdated from a design point of view. I'm keen to help them out, and have made quite a few wordpress sites, but never one using woocommerce.

My question is how do I best go about doing this? Is it best to remove the existing site andstart from scratch with a new wordpress/woocommerce installation on the server, or would updating the existing theme be quite straightforward? Any suggestions much appreciated!

Hi, @ jmorgan!

If the issue is a basic design problem, keeping the same theme and modifying the CSS manually could be an option. You can also change the visuals by editing the .php page templates too. If the change is too big (major layout or UX changes), you can always just install a new theme that is compatible with the woo-commerce plugin, and you can take advantage of the live preview of the site with the new theme without installing it. Just keep in mind that after changing the theme, you need to double check that all the functionality is still working properly.
