Android Build a Weather App (2015) Hooking Up the Model to the View Using Butter Knife for Views

Updating gradle dependencies

So now that we've added butterknife 6.whatever... Does that mean I'll have to remember to update the "compile..." line every so often when a new version of butterknife or Okhttp is available?

Is it best practice to check gradle dependencies every so often?

Personally I wouldn't worry about checking for updates. You build your app around a dependency of butterknife 6. My thought is that unless there is a major bug in that specific version, why risk an update that could potentially break your app.
