use a 'real' website or the dev website?

HI! I have followed along the basis wordpress lessons and have installed via the desktop server a local dev site. I also have my own 'real' website. I now get to the point that I have to make a child theme and a custom 'art' post. But I have no idea if I should use a ftp server for my dev site (don't think so as it is a local one running on my mac). It looks like I have missed a step in my track..

Hi Lizbeth.

If you want to learn when and how to use FTP there's a great course that will give you the basics on how to do this. Local Wordpress Development

You will need to use FTP and this is perfectly normal part of the process. Typcially Wordpress files will go in the public_html or www folder of your host server.

Good luck. :-)

If you are running a dev server on your local machine then you do not need to use FTP, simply open up the files directly from their folder and edit away.

Hi Luke and Jonathan,

Thank you for your answers. I think I will create a new 'real' website as testsite so that I will understand the FTP and also I can follow along step by step. Will check out the Local Wordpress Development as mentioned too.

Will give it a try :)
