Could have sworn this is how it was done in the video. and I even checked the web for the right syntax. But it keeps asking if I called the right Jquery argument. Can someone point me in the right direction on what I am missing here?

You need to make a variable named newName and store the value of name-input in it. Try:

$('button').click(function() {
  var newName = $("#name-input").val()
});
