User Login

First off before I ask my question i'll let you know where I stand with my php knowledge. I most of the times use it with word press and I do understand a decent amount like functions, loops, arrays ect. Anyways I wanted to build on my php knowledge by understanding how to create a user login website where an individual user will login with their password and have their profile with their profile picture and some description about them selves and what not. And this is assuming I already have the entire static html complete. I wanted to know how I can implement this into a website through maybe a wordpress plugin as well as other methods using php. I understand this may be a long explanation but can someone guide me to where I can learn more about this or maybe let me know if there is a tutorial on this or any information.
