User Login Implementation

I am following the current model of Table Views for my own application with API that requires a user to login. I was wondering what would be the right direction to implement the user login functionality. Should I model the Login as a new member in Enum and create a new Endpoint that would pass the user ID and password to the server? I found that most tutorials use NSMutableURLRequest and 'Post' method to pass the user name and password. Any help would be greatly appreciate it.
