Using Chromebooks for Coding Work & Treehouse Classes

I'm thinking about getting an ASUS Chromebook for coding work, web site development, my Treehouse classes, etc. because I can't afford to pay a lot for a laptop right now. Will the Chromebook be okay for this?

I'm not an expert on this but it looks like your into design, and I would take a wild guess chromebook couldn't handle the graphics. I have gimp on my low to mid range lenovo laptop and it STRUGGLES with that program. But, I could be wrong

I think it will be good for html, css, php etc If you can deal with the lack of screen real estate, but they are not very powerful machines

We have a chromebook in our household. Great internet device, not so great work machine, largely because a lot of software you need, isn't available in a chromebook flavor.

To get around this, if I am using the chromebook, I use an internet IDE like http://c9.io, or the Treehouse workspaces would work just fine to get around the chromebook-y part of the OS. I think you're out of luck for any graphic software.

In a pinch it's not bad, but if you do get one, keep saving until you can get something a little more full featured.

On the flipside, A lot of similar speced Windows laptops are priced similar to chromebooks if you shop it and purchase at the right time. And than you can set up a virtual box for Linux if you need it for a better development environment.
