JavaScript Object-Oriented JavaScript Getters and Setters Creating Setter Methods

Using the 'this' keyword instead of Class-/Object-name when calling a value in a setter.

As the title says, I'm having a bit of trouble understanding why the code works, when you use dot.notation with the 'this' keyword in a setter, but using the Object's name the same way it doesn't. Example:

Works: set major(major) { if (this.level != 'Senior' || this.level != 'Junior') { this._major = 'None'; } else { this._major = major; } }

Doesn't work: set major(major) { if (Student.level != 'Senior' || Student.level != 'Junior') { this._major = 'None'; } else { this._major = major; } }

Is it because setter and getter methods are not strictly speaking attached to the object, or am I missing something else?
