Using Watchkit with iOS app - accessing data

So I have followed the iOS course and started messing with watchkit.

Unfortunately until WatchOS2 I developers cannot using storage for the apps functions and have to rely on core data, something we have not cored in the iOS course.

So what is the quickest/easiest method to sharing the iOS app(s) data to use with an Apple Watch. Surely there should be an easy method to accessing data to 'setText' to the watch label.

Any ideas, resources or guidance would be much appreciated; I cannot be the only one taking the iOS course wanting to also build for the Apple Watch.
