Vertically center an element inside the parent element

Hi,

First of all, I would like to thank the Treehouse staff and community for providing me quality courses and feedbacks.

I was wondering if there was any chance I could easily center a block element inside its parent element. The margin: auto declaration makes it easy when one wants to center a block horizontally, but I can't figure out how I could do the same vertically.
