Visual Studio

Hi all, Im currently using Atom for coding and web development. Ive came across visual studio for mac. However I completely lost as I cant seem to get thing thing working. Is this system used for building websites as it seems it caters for applications only. If so am I correct to say I have to download additional functionalities to do so?

Visual studio for mac is more for building apps than websites (although it does support asp.net core web framework). If you're looking for a replacement for atom for basic websites and php / other backend languages then you will probably be better off using visual studio code instead (a completely different app thats available for windows, mac and linux).
