Web building pc

I need to setup a pc to help me build web sites.

I am thinking windows 8.1, notepad++ and photoshop, also bootstraps.

I also think an account with wordpress would be good.

Can anyone think of anything else that would be useful.

I am new to web design and building, so ideas on templates and quick start layouts would be good.

Thanks..

Dual monitors.

There are thousands of not tens of thousands of blogs, sites and other sorts of plaves you can find templates and ideas. GOOGLE IS YOUR FRIEND!!!

Mod note:

We try to be very newbie friendly around here, so any question related to getting started building websites is welcome here. Also all caps traditionally means shouting and we like to keep it civil around here and avoid shouting at each other.

If you see a question that can easily be googled feel free to do that, if you don't care to at that exact moment, just move on maybe there's another question that's more to your liking.

So the answer to my question is don't ask treehouse I should ask google.

I joined treehouse because i wanted a trainner i could trust to give me correct info. I trust treehouse. I think Nick and the gang are great.

Definitely not. We welcome any question about getting started building websites, even if it's been asked before. I routinely re-use past replies to popular newbie questions.

If you intend to go into things like front-end development (Node.js, Angular, jQuery,) as well as use tools like Sass and Less I would also recommend dual-booting a linux distro. While you can get most of these kind of tools on Windows it is a complete pain in the backside wheras on linux it is usually only one or two commands.

For quick-starts try Foundation by Zurb, Twitter Bootstrap, Skeleton and maybe 960.gs, a github profile would also probably be a bonus.

Dual monitors is a minimum. Triple monitors are amazing! I love my triple monitor set up. Which means you need a graphic card that can run triple monitors.

HD space is important too. Either get a computer with a large hard drive, or buy an external drive you leave basically plugged in. Web assets start chewing up space fast. I'd get at least 1TB of HD space.

Bootstrap and Wordpress can be used on any computer, so you don't have to worry about that. They are just file assets you can download later on.

My video card can run two screens but I have one very large screen, and one small screen. Your system using three screens, I would love to see that.

andy godley It's nothing crazy special. It's a Dell XPS 8500 with this exact graphics card. http://www.txcesssurplus.com/servlet/the-14235/New-Dell-DRNTY-AMD/Detail

It's basically a AMD Radeon HD7770 graphics card, but this one is just for "Dell". (Not sure if that's good or bad lol) It works great however, and I believe the graphics card can support up to 6 monitors.

My typical screen set up is one screen for some sort of web documentation, illustrator, photoshop, or general web searches, or the folder finder screen, once screen just to my text editor, and one screen with my localhost website.

I've just had a play with a MAC. I would love one but money that's the problem, I will continue to use windows 8.1 and i'm going to start using photoshop.. Thanks for your help..

You might like pinegrow they describe it as ...

a desktop app that lets you mockup & design webpages faster with multi-page editing, CSS & LESS styling and smart components for Bootstrap and Foundation.

Also for Wordpress, you should set up a local dev environment, so get virtualbox and use a virtual appliance (OVF) from either Bitnami, Turnkey Linux works as well.

James, do you own an android tablet? well if that answer is yes then you will realise that the shift key which makes caps is right above the A button. by hitting the shift key without meaning to you will see that your text is not as it should do.

I do not appreciate that responce due to a typo.

Also, please unless I say something that offends somebody, do not say to avoid phrases like Google.is your friend. I believe that it is Treehouse that has that phrase in some of ther videos. (check my current paths videos)

Furthermore, if I had no intention on helping then I would not have posted. I gave advice as also given by Treehouse in some of.Nick Pettits videos. Do not try and perceive me as some.sort of internet troll. I have helped many people on this forum and am accumulating more and more "best answers".

People not appreciating inputs make me not want to post on this forum.

I shall retire to bed, not a happy bunny!

Hope everybody has helped you here Andy Godley

I'm sorry if my reply came off as controlling or made you unhappy.

I was merely trying to indicate that here on Treehouse we try to welcome new users and replying "google is your friend" instead of posting a link to an article you found on Google can have a chilling effect.

Here on Treehouse we have a lot of people posting on a forum for the first time.

I have helped many people on this forum and am accumulating more and more "best answers".

That's great to hear! There's no way to cross check for mods to check out past post for context, so that can lead to misunderstands.

we are all here for the same reasons, to learn and help others learn. I say we carry on in doing that. Are you with me James? Full steam ahead.
