Website Planning

I love all the videos on actually coding websites, but I was wondering if there were any resources here or elsewhere that really dive into the planning phase since that's crucial to the coding/design part of the project.

Hey Keith,

you can try http://lynda.com

On one hand, Lynda is a big website, and as not a very helpful suggestion.

On the other hand, I did find this course Web site planning and wireframing which looks perfect.

Dang...that's just mean James. :P

For Gold members there's a whole Bonus Content section on dev/designer planning. Even if you're not coding with Ruby specifically, the sprint planning stuff is really useful.

I think my favorite is resource on this is probably A Beginner’s Guide to Wireframing

This is also a good step by step design workflow

Here are a few videos you can watch

Thanks for all the info. I was thinking something along the lines of from "Yay I've got a client/project" through delivering/handoff and everything in between. I'll definitely check put those resources. I tried Lynda.com awhile ago and wasn't a fan really. Maybe I didn't try the right courses.

There is a design fundamentals course that is pretty good. It is more of a process type course though. Not much tech.

James can probably get you the link to it. ;)

Ps. That design fundamentals course is here on treehouse!

Yes sir. That's on my list and I've gone through a badge or two. Didn't think it talked about the initial planning phase though.

Thanks again.

Might be the wrong one then. I'll look it up and let you know when I get back to the house.

It went over meeting with the client and the process you should think about going through before you start writing code.

Check out http://www.sitepoint.com/web-design-workflow-made-easy/ it starts with client prep & ends with client approval.

Also here's the link to design foundations course

James Barnett yeah that is a good one!

Keith Doyle this was actually what I was thinking of http://teamtreehouse.com/library/websites/design-foundations/becoming-a-problem-solver-2 It's short but I really got a lot out of it, again it is a 30,000ft view of the concepts but it gives you a great framework to build into.
