What am I missing from this code line?

I have set the button to an id but when I run the compiler it will return an error and will not show me the details of the error.

MainActivity.java 
import android.app.Activity;
import android.os.Bundle;
import android.view.View;
import android.widget.Button;

public class MainActivity extends Activity {

    protected Button mExterminateButton;

    @Override
    public void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) {
        super.onCreate(savedInstanceState);
        setContentView(R.layout.activity_main);

        // Declare our view variables
        mExterminateButton = (Button) findViewid(R.id.button1);
    }

The method name is misspelled. It should be findViewById().
