What are some good avenues to work into user experience or front end design?

So this is a pretty loaded question, so let me give some brief background. I currently work in technical support SaaS division of a large corporation. I joined Treehouse to grow my existing knowledge and arrived at a realization. User experience was where I wanted to be. I think I can bring some good experience to the table, but could use some guidance. Open to any suggestions.

Does your company have a UX team? Are you interested in joining them or getting into UX at a different company? I would start by expressing interest with the folks around you. Maybe spend some time shadowing them or offer to take a few out for coffee. I've found that most people are excited when someone wants to find out more about what they do.

Hey John, thanks for the response! As a matter of fact, I have! I met with our UX director and expressed interest about a month ago. There are plans to include me in future meetings, but I want to hone the proper skill sets in the mean time.
