What are some recommended PC system requirements for Android Development?

I currently am looking to purchase a new laptop. The one I curently own is not able to run the android emulator. It takes the AVD on my system twenty minutes to load (same time in two different IDEs) and operates extremely slow after it has completely loaded.

What are some of the recommended processor types and RAM sizes to run something like the AVD without having to wait longer than a few minutes. I am currently looking at something with Intel i7 cpu and at least 8 gb of ram.

Does the AVD run well on an AMD system?

I was having the same issue with my computer, so I got a new mac book pro. I have both windows and OSX in it. So if money is not a problem i think mac is great for android development. Is 8GB ram with 2.9GHZ processor

You can try using some linux based system, the emulator runs better than Windows and can test directly in your device connected in USB. You could also check the project Android x86 to runs smoothly in windows, i've not tested the Android x86 for development purpose yet.
