What does he mean by "Instead we want to create a component to represent our app"? What app? I am confused...

At roughly after 3:20 he talks about not wanting to keep adding DOM elements directly to the render call. That in itself is confusing. It would have been better if he explained that properly... Then he talks about using a component to represent the app. What app? Does he mean to represent the DOM elements?
