What does the period mean or do in "SELECT Teachers. *"?

The instructor added a period and said "Oh that's cool that that worked" but didn't explain what it does.

The period (or "dot") separates a table name from a column. In this case, the asterisk is used to mean "all columns". So "Teachers.*" means "all columns in the table named Teachers".
