What does treehouse use to make all its animations and cartoon thingies

How do they make all the cartoon wizards and frogs etc. Do you have to be a skilled graphic designer to do this? Does nick make these at treehouse? i feel like he would

My thoughts would be Adobe After Effects. It's great for vector art illustrations.
