If I make a messaging app and get a lot of users like facebook or your typical messaging app, what would happen. Would I get payed for it, if no, then how does facebook make a lot of money, obviously it's free to sign up, it must be the users, but how?

3,667 PointsFacebook generates it's revenue through advertisements. Most free web services like Google search and Youtube do the same.
