What is a package manager?

In Guil's Bootstrap course he mentions a package manager, but not what one is. Can someone enlighten me? Thanks!

With a package manager you can install, update and remove packages (a package could be an app, a library, etc.). Examples of a package manager are apt forUbuntu Linux, AppStore/Google PlayStore for the iPhone/Android, npm/yarn for Node.js... If you wish to know more, there is an npm basics course on Treehouse or just Google for more information.
