What is required to be a professional web designer ?

Hi, I recently started my learning journey on tree house. I am a high school student and I wanna take Graphic design college when I finish my studies. Can I become a web designer if I take arts and go to a graphic design college ? or I need to take non-medical and do all the physics and chemistry which i hate !!!

Please reply soon :)

Graphic design classes largely train you to be a "print designer". There is a lot of value in the design fundamentals they teach.

To get a job outside of a traditional print design field however, you'll need additional training (Treehouse can help with this) and to work to re-brand yourself as either a "visual designer" or a "web designer".

Thanks allot for answering my question :) So, if I follow all the tree house courses, will I be eligible to get a web design job and call myself a web designer ???

Step 1 one is education. Step 2 is experience.

Getting experience is a problem for everyone looking to start a new career. Building a portfolio helps with that. Any chance to build a website for some is worth taking. Once you've got half a dozen pieces in your portfolio then you can start freelancing doing side projects for real clients with real money.

With any luck by the time you get out of school you will have a few websites you built for some small businesses and you can use them as references when you apply for your first job.

WOW, You are very helpful, Thanks allot :)

Do you have any experience in working as a freelancer on websites like odesk, elance etc?
