a system in which information can be expressed by combinations of the digits 0 and 1.

it was invented in the 1700's by a guy named Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz and originally had a quasi-religious foundation, but ended up becoming the basis for all computing. it works on a base two binary system? I don't know much more.
