What is the didSelectRowAtIndexPath method used for?

It does basically what it says. You can perform some code when the users taps on a cell.

For example, In the blog reader app this is used to determine which 'blog post' the user has selected and uses that information to open a corresponding web-view. It's also commonly used to move to a view controller with more information on that cells' text.
