What is the difference between Desktop Server and Xampp?

If I want to develop locally why would I choose one over the other?

are you using windows? I don't see a difference between them, but If you are comfortable with the command line, I would suggest you use VVV Vagrant and VV as your local environment. It's a little bit advanced, but its very much worth it.

What do you like with Vagrant over others? In my experience Vagrant is that it is very slow compared to Desktop Server (strictly Windows with this).
