What is the mistake here

if(fieldName.charAt(0) == 'm' && Character.isUpperCase(fieldName.charAt(1))); return fieldName; } else {

throw new IllegalArgumentException( "Must enter a validated method name" ); }

TeacherAssistant.java
public class TeacherAssistant {

  public static String validatedFieldName(String fieldName) {

    if(fieldName.charAt(0) == 'm' && Character.isUpperCase(fieldName.charAt(1)));
   return fieldName;
      } else {

  throw new IllegalArgumentException( "Must enter a validated method name" );
    }

if(fieldName.charAt(0) == 'm' && Character.isUpperCase(fieldName.charAt(1)));

you end this line with a semi colon as if it was a statement rather than opening a code block for the conditional. Change ';' to '{'
