15,479 PointsOne reason might be that the development community as a whole favors programming languages that are open-source, and are moving away from ones that are proprietary. There is nothing inherently "good" or "bad" about languages, but there is a perception that ASP.NET is not the future.
That being said, there are still tons of jobs for ASP.NET out there, often times paying more for the same skill level compared to developers in other languages. I would keep learning and pushing your comfort levels, as development is always going to be changing and evolving.
