What is the treehouse techdegree???

This is something new I've come across on treehouse, and I had a few questions. What's the difference between the treehouse tech degree and the regular treehouse tracks/courses?!! What are the benefits? Is the tech degree better??? Is it ok/good/better for beginners with no prior coding experience? I was so eager to start the java track as a beginner with no prior coding experience, but then I saw the java tech degree program and I got a bit discouraged because now I don't know which is better and what to choose...omg so many options on treehouse xD not just that...but when I saw the price on it!!! $99.00 per month???(if I'm not mistaken). Hope it's worth it, not that I can afford it(currently) anyways lol. Is simply sticking to the regular treehouse tracks and courses which my mom pays about $30(I think) per month for a better option for me? I also feel a bit discouraged because now I'm somewhat convinced that the regular treehouse program won't be good enough... I'm not trying to say that the regular courses are crap compared to the tech degree courses...I just want to know your thoughts and opinions. Thanks!! :)

I have no direct experience with it, but I've gathered that the main differences in the Techdegree program are pacing, guidance and personal attention (one-on-one mentoring, instructor-reviewed assignments, and a proctored exam).

As far as I can tell, the quality of instruction is the same at all levels, but pro level gets you more material (workshops and seminars) and Techdegree gets you more structure and guidance.

Hi Luqman,

I'd be happy to provide some clarity for you. The main differences between the Techdegree program and our regular (buffet style) courses is the 12 customizable projects you will complete as well as the final exam thats administered at the end of the program. And you don't have to have any prior experience to do so.

Our buffet style courses are great for individuals who are already intrinsically motivated and know how to get from novice to employed. The Techdegree offers more support and and guidance when moving from point A to B.

The quality between the buffet style and Techdegree remains the same, so rest assured, either direction you choose to take, you won't lose out. The Techdegree just offers a bit more support. Such as with the $99/month TD you mentioned. You'll have access to our guided curriculum, the 12 projects, along with the final proctored exam and certification.

We do have a few other price tiers, so if you have additional questions about them and the benefits of enrolling in those plans or simply any other questions, feel free to send our Support Team an email at help@teamtreehouse.com.
