What is translate() method?

Hi,

Does anyone know what is translate() method of string and what it does? I google it and went through several pages talk about it but I still don't really get it.

It's a simple value replacement function.

It uses the value of each character in the string to look up a replacement in a table, then replaces the character. It can optionally remove certain characters at the same time.

Did you see the page for it at www.tutorialspoint.com? I thought that one was better than most because it showed some simple examples including the companion function maketrans.
