General Discussion

What is Unix and Linux

I am aware of the basics but what is the difference, similarities, are they the same thing? Is one above or below the other? Does one require the other?

Andrew;

I would recommend taking a look here for an in-depth response.

In a nutshell, however,

  • Linux is free opensource software. Unix is not.
  • General user can use Linux but wont be able to use Unix.
  • Different design

Hope it helps,

Ken

Thank you very much! I remember a video explaining it on teamtreehouse just couldn't find it

I briefly looked through some of the Development Tools courses as well hoping to jog my memory, but alas, my memory wasn't jogged.
