Hi! The right code is this:

var $newStudent $('.student-list').append('<li>Sam Smith</li>'); ```
In the first part is the selector and right after is the list we want to append it.

Hi Aayush, you're doing great, you just wrote your code the other way around. You appended the unordered list with a class 'student-list' to the new list item which contains a name:

var $newStudent = $("<li>Sam Smith</li>").append(".student-list"); //you don't append directly to a variable declaration

Instead of appending the new list item which contains a name to the unordered list with a class 'student-list':

var $newStudent = $("<li>Sam Smith</li>");
$('.student-list').append($newStudent);

Now I get it!

Thanks for the quick answer Osaro! :)
