Referencing the name of the variable the object is inside of it considered bad form, as it can lead to issues if the object is assigned to a variable or parameter that has a different name. You should instead use the this keyword which will always point at the object the method is in. Like this:

const player1 = {
    name: 'Ashley',
    color: 'purple',
    isTurn: true,
    play: function(){
        // write code here.
      if (this.isTurn) {

      }
    }
}
