What?!?!?!?! Paste the results from running this command java -version

what do I do? I keep copying the java -version and pasting it like both #java -version and java -version and all I get is a bummer message

Hi there! You're supposed to either run this command on your local system or launch a Java workspace and run it. When it's run there will be some output to the console. That is what is supposed to be pasted here. It's not looking for the command but rather the results of running the command.

ok I did and I got what I'm suppose to but when I highlight it wont let me copy it, as soon as I right click it unhighlights and I never have the option to do anything

Steven Couture when you have the text highlighted, try using the keyboard commands CTRL + C or CMD + C to copy the text.
