What software?

Hi.

What software do you use when you webdesign? Photoshop? Notepad++ or SublimText? What do you prefer, and what do you recommend!

Coda 2 Adobe Illustrator, Fireworks, Photoshop Sometimes Sublime Text

Pick the right tool for the right job.

  • Coding --> Notepad++
  • Wireframing --> HotGloo
  • Hi-fi Prototype --> Fireworks
  • Photo editing --> Photoshop Elements
  • Local Development --> Turn Key Linux
  • Publishing --> Filezilla
  • Responsive Design Testing --> Responsinator

I perfer notepad++ over Sublime text as Notepad++ is actually free.

Whereas Sublime Text is ...

Sublime Text 2 may be downloaded and evaluated for free, however a license must be purchased for continued use. There is currently no enforced time limit for the evaluation.

Do you think that Photoshop Elements is fine for creating webdesigns? Or do i need the full package that cost 300$

@Adam - Photoshop is for working with photos. Fireworks is for creating webdesigns.

I personally have a Adobe Creative Cloud subscription to get access to all Adobe's software. It is considerably cheaper than buying them upfront.

@John - Specialy when i'm able to get students discount. Only problem is that i need to sign up for a year - and I may not need it in a year.

I use sublime text, as for wireframing/logo making/illustrating I am hearing good things about [Sketch by Bohemian Coding](//www.bohemiancoding.com/sketch/) (I don't use it).

@Enique - Sketch looks pretty awesome, unfortunately it appears to be Mac-only.

As Notepad++ is Windows-only, so I'm guessing that @Adam is only looking for software that has a Windows version or is Web-based.

Oh I see, hahaha. I was just wondering @James, why do you like notepad++ so much, I see you commenting about it in the forum. What can it do that Sublime can't?

@Enrique -

What can Notepad++ do, that Sublime can't

I look at it the other way around, Sublime Text costs $70. What does it have to justify that price tag that Notepad++ doesn't have.

I use Omnigraffle or Balsamiq for wireframing. For designing a site I used to use Fireworks, but will now be making the switch to Bohemian Sketch. Why not Photoshop? It’s too bloated and cumbersome for designing websites and it was never intended to be used for that. It’s meant for manipulating images which is what I use it for, though I am considering switching to Pixelmator. For coding a site I use Brackets. For publishing to a server I use Transmit.
