What To Learn

I am in high school, and this year, I will take a class called Computer Science Independent Study along with 5 other people. The teacher told us we can choose ANYTHING about computer science we want to learn and do it. What is the best technology to learn? I want us to learn something that we can use to make a product like an app or website to show colleges or hiring companies. And I want it to be big. Not just a framework/library (like Bootsrap) but a whole technology (like iOS development). Which skillset will most-likely give us a job?

Advice from Treehouse teachers and people already in the industry is especially apperciated. =)

I would learn the building blocks of the web which are HTML/CSS. Then learn Javascript if you want. I would then learn a back-end language like Ruby or PHP. Watch this video...https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i5qpS_D8Law. have funn!!!!!

Thank you for the response. I guess going into the web development industry is good, but I don't know where to start. I have done 90 % of the HTML/CSS/JavaScript courses on Treehouse and there aren't any intermediate courses on the Internet. They are all just for beginners.

I would move on to back-end development. Ruby on Rails is awesome, but some say you should learn PHP first to get a better understanding of back-end dev. From your profile, it looks like you already have some web stuff done.
