What to use <br> or \n ?

In these videos Hampton Paulk sometimes uses <br> - for line breaks and sometimes \n. Are they always interchangable? And what to use better?

<br /> is an HTML line-break while \n is a unix source code new line. So, <br /> makes a new line in the markup and \n makes a new line in the code.
