When I open my layers panel, my "Rectangles" are called paths instead.

Is there a way to change this? I'm sure it won't affect anything in this course, as far as I can tell all this was for was to be able to accurately place the grids. But it could possibly cause problems in future projects?

Did you create your Rectangles with the Rectangle tool? If you used the pen tool to make them it will name them paths.

Hope that helps !

I have the same problem ... Also I made sure that I selected the rectangle tool and double checked it with shortcut M ..... It still creates path for me instead of rectangle ..... I am using AI CS6

It's also slightly faster to change the dimensions of a rectangle, than a path; so rectangles would be a better choice if you plan on making a template for future designs.

I had the same problem but when I clicked the horizontal lines icon with the dropdown arrow icon in the top right corner and selected exit isolation mode I was able to rename the folder the "guide" like in the video. Hope that helps.
